Promoting Transformative and Playful Learning
During the award presentation in March 2026, Mrs. Helen Owo, highlighted Whisper to Humanity’s commitment to promoting transformative education and safe learning environments. Over 21 months, the Foundation worked directly in 16 schools across Ebonyi state, successfully curbing insecurity and gender-based violence while fostering a playful, safe learning environment.

The Foundation’s sustainability efforts include:
- Teachers’ Capacity Building: Building the capacity of educators to bridge gender gaps in classrooms and prioritise playful learning approaches.
- Establishing Safe Spaces/Playrooms: Creating dedicated areas in schools equipped with educational and playful materials.
- Forming School Clubs: Introducing transformative leadership clubs built with feminist principles to teach values and essential life skills.
- Community Collaboration: Partnering with school communities, families, and traditional rulers to bridge the gender gap.
The Foundation established over sixteen play stations across the state, donating educational games like Scrabble, whisper card and board games, Chess, musical bands, costumes, Table Tennis, and Long Tennis, and sporting equipment like volleyball and football. Trained over 300 Teachers for transformative education approaches and alongside over 25,000 students and pupils on creative advocacy to continue advocating for their dream classrooms and schools.
According to the Organisation’s Program Officer, “We believe that kids are actually playful beings, that is why we are encouraging educational games to spark interest of the kids towards teaching and learning, adding that kids can play and learn at the same time”
The introduction of the playful and safe learning method of teaching and learning has been hailed by school staff, such as Mr. Hilary Nwigwe, the Whisper Club Coordinating Teacher at Ugwulangwu Secondary School, as a capacity enhancement program that will make learning more pleasant and exciting for students.
“We co-created whisper play stations to give them a sense of ownership. They painted and wrote what they liked in the station. The learning environment should not be boring but exciting; we also taught them how to play the games. It was a great experience for us as a team.” The words of a field officer with the foundation.
