From the Classroom to the Spotlight: How Partnering with Whisper to Humanity Changed Everything at Nnodo Secondary School

Before Whisper to Humanity came to Nnodo Secondary School Abakaliki, things were different. As a teacher, my partnership with Whisper didn’t just impact my professional life—it transformed my whole approach. I became more proactive, developed new teaching and human relationship skills, and found a renewed dedication to my calling.

Lifting Our School to the Limelight

The impact on the school itself has been profound. Whisper didn’t just offer support; they propelled Nnodo Secondary School Abakaliki into the limelight. The students now have high self-esteem, which translates directly into excellent performance.

One of the most critical transformations was in security. Whisper went above and beyond to address our security challenges, creating platforms for us, the teachers, and our students to advocate directly for a secure school space. Today, we boast of well-trained security personnels working day and night. This foundation of safety is crucial, and it’s a reflection of the platform Whisper provided and the small effort the school club and I were able to contribute.

Eradicating Gender-Based Violence

Beyond visibility and security, Whisper’s efforts have had a deep social impact, helping us successfully eradicate Gender-Based Violence (GBV) within the school. This change alone has created a safer, more respectful environment for every student and teachers.

Celebrating Excellence and Achievement

The dedication brought about by this partnership has not gone unnoticed. Just last term, during the 8th anniversary of the Nnodo Secondary School Abakaliki Press Club, I was honoured with a special award. The citation read: “For your selfless service and efforts to ensure the best for the students.” My students called me a role model and credited me with helping them “appear on a big stage”.

The students’ success speaks volumes: A student from the Whisper club recently bagged a bronze award in the Olympiad National Mathematics Competition. This is a tangible benefit of our partnership, and the momentum is building as several students are currently equipped and are ready to win the upcoming One Youth Quiz and Debate Competition.

Nnodo Secondary School Abakaliki is a proud outcome of Whisper and all they have brought to our community. For making the classrooms safer and learning more fun, we say a big thank you to the Executive Director and her entire team.

We love WHISPER!
