My name is Onyinyechi Ekuma-Idam. I am the Whisper to Humanity teacher co-ordinator at Onomike Secondary Grammar School, Afikpo, Ebonyi State. The transformation with Whisper to Humanity has been profound; today, the name Whisper to Humanity is a household name in my school environment and community at large.
A New Approach to Learning
Since the inception of whisper to humanity in our school, teaching and learning have improved. Our success is rooted in a dynamic methodology: engaging students through the playway method, which makes the learning experience more enjoyable and rewarding and ensures students’ overall development. This approach to ignite creativity and boost the imagination of the learners through the play tools and equipment provided by Whisper to Humanity has proved more effective in teaching and learning.
Forget boring teaching! Since Whisper to Humanity arrived, we’ve ditched the old ways for the “play-way” method. It’s all about engagement, creativity, and sparking those young imaginations. With the awesome equipment provided, teaching has never been more rewarding, and the students are absolutely loving it!
This engaging environment has led to tangible results. Wednesdays have been selected for our ‘whisper day’. My students are always looking forward to Wednesdays for the Whisper Club session. The enthusiasm is undeniable: on this day, we normally have 99.9 per cent attendance among both students and teachers; even academically uninterested students are always in attendance on whisper day, and everyone participates actively in our various activities for the day.
As the adage goes: all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. My students’ dedication is evident in their achievements: sequel to that, in the Whiper Chess and Scrabble tournament that took place, my school narrowly escaped first position in Scrabble, being the first runner up.
Community Raves and Recognition
The impact has extended far beyond the classroom, generating curiosity and recognition in the wider community. This has moved some parents and students from neighbouring schools to ask: What is whisper? Is it only Onomike in Ozizza that is for whisper? Why can’t they come to our school? Some even call me Madam Whisper, and my students “whisper students”.

When parents inquire—Madam, what is Whisper?—I proudly share the organisation’s mission. I reply to them that the name is Whisper to Humanity, a non-governmental organization that prioritizes with dignity and equity for humanity.
The changes are even noted at home, as one parent remarked in awe that they no longer hear at home anything but whisper this or whisper that, and I always respond that is whisper for you.
The community eagerly awaits Whisper to Humanity events. Numerous men and women in the community, both those who have benefited from whisper and those who have heard about them and their educational trainings —especially the ones that centered on security and gender-based violence (GBV) and sumptuous entertainments in the community—will tell me: “Madam, please, any day whisper people are coming, please don’t fail to inform me.”
Even our Community Leaders share this enthusiasm: not forgetting our diligent Onomike security vigilante group that has been safeguarding the equipment provided by the Whisper to humanity team and the school environment and community at large. Since the donations and security training organized by Whisper for them with the Police and the state Gender team, they also ask: Madam, when are the Whisper people coming again?”
These questions and observations confirm the program’s success, all these and more questions are being asked because Whisper To Humanity has created a very great and positive impact and encouraged innovation in the lives and minds of people who have come across them or have heard about them.
Truly, Whisper to Humanity is a household name.
